News and Updates from the 2018 JPMA Baby Show
Overall the trend in carseats for 2018-2019 is ease-of-use and technology. We saw that in abundance at the Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association (JPMA) Baby Show this year. From technology that tells you if your child has unbuckled their chest clip to QR codes that help you register your carseat and get installation help, to new seats with load legs and rebound-management features, there were plenty of new and exciting products on the show floor this year.
Cybex Sirona M with SensorSafe 2.0 wins 2018 JPMA Innovation Award for “Best in Show”!
Cybex Sirona M is finally available! This is a feature-rich technology seat, designed to be used with an app. The app tells you if your child has undone their chest clip, if they’re in the safe temperature zone (55˚-85˚F), or if you’ve walked away from your vehicle with your phone but without your child. The app also includes your carseat’s instruction manual and has some vehicle-specific information as well. The SensorSafe 2.0 app works in conjunction with a receiver plug that is inserted in your vehicle’s ODB port, so if you drive a vehicle without an OBD port (an electric vehicle), it won’t work. Our full review is coming soon so stay tuned for more Sirona M details!

New Aton M Infant Seat
The Cybex Aton M is a brand new infant seat that will be available this summer. Aton M combines some of the features of the GB Idan and Aton 2 seats. It offers a no-rethread harness and a multi-position load leg. The load leg features indicators that provide feedback to the parent and it locks flush underneath the base. The base also features an anti-rebound bar, a simplified beltpath with a true lockoff (yay!) and metal ball recline angle indicators on both sides. The L.S.P. (Linear Side-Impact Protection) system on the sides of the carrier are similar to those on the Idan and it has the ability to be installed Euro-style without the base. We’ll have a full review once Aton M is available this summer!
We got the Aton M for our little born in June 2019. First car seat we’ve ever bought without you guys reviewing. But we kept waiting for the review, it went onto an INCREDIBLE special allowing a coupon on top of special discount at Buy Buy Baby (Aton M w/sensor for $255 or without sensor for $205) so we couldn’t pass up the deal on that number of features. We found it fairly easy to install base and load leg. Once we learned the 1-2 step of pushing top button, then button beneath and pull on the seat… it can be an EASY one-handed removal, just took some practice. But also made us feel good knowing it can’t pop out of base without both steps. Having a base as safety-rich as this one, the idea of installing without seemed silly… but with the extra side-impact safety feature and euro-belt path option (and a LOT lighter than the Q) we were pretty sold on this over the Uppababy or Nuna. We’re pretty average earners, value conscious, but after witnessing our parents in a rollover crash – we’ll spend whatever it takes to ensure our kids are safe in the car.
Really looking forward to your review and feedback on this seat. Also interesting is that Cybex added “base also fits the Sirona as this is part of the new Cybex Sirona modular system” to the info pace for our seat-base! Hoping to hear more from you guys on that, as you’ve been our trusted resource for years!
Thanks for sharing your experience, Jennifer! Glad to hear from a loyal reader 🙂 . And congrats on your new little one!
