Space in Vehicle Comparison:
In the Stage 1 infant setting, Fit2 is very similar to KeyFit 30 in the way it fits in the vehicle. In the Stage 2 toddler setting, you can see that Fit2 sits higher up on the base and the back of the adjustable headrest (when it’s at the maximum height setting) is up to the front seat’s head restraint. This more upright position is very similar to how a convertible seat fits in the vehicle.
Both the KeyFit 30 and the Fit2 Infant & Toddler Seat are safe, comfortable carseats that are easy to install correctly and easy to use properly. If you’re trying to decide between the two, let me assure you that you really can’t go wrong with either one. Fit2 is more versatile, has some additional features and will fit most kids until they reach age 2 but the KeyFit 30 is a popular and dependable infant seat that parents have loved and trusted for over a decade.

It would be really helpful to list the length of the seat too, so I can tell if it will fit in my car with limited rear seat room. Width isn’t a problem since this is our first child, but for people that don’t want or need a giant SUV, it would be nice to know if the car seat will fit behind the front seat in my compact car.
Does the KeyFit2 work with a quinny moodd stroller? I see you can use the adapter for the Chicco KeyFit 30 and was hoping the KeyFit 2 as well.
Will the key fit 30 Carseat “base” for a fit2 carseat?
Hi Laurie, the Fit2 must be used with the Fit2 base.
Will the Fit2 work on the Urban Glide 2 with either universal or Chicco specific adapter? Thule’s fit guide does not list Fit2 as compatible but wondering if it had been attempted with either adapter?
Do you know if the Fit2 is compatible with UppaBaby strollers? They have a car seat adapter for the KeyFit/KeyFit 30 models, but not sure if it also works with the Fit2.
@Yvonne, I’m really not sure. Call UPPA customer service because they will know for sure. Fit2 is very different from KeyFit so I don’t want to assume that they both use the same adapter.
Yes, Fit2 works with Uppababy strollers, you just need an Chicco adapter made by UB. We use a Fit2 with our UB Cruz.
Hi, I purchased the urban stroller and the key fit 2 if I buy the stroller adapter does the carseat fit or is it too big?
The Urban stroller does accept the Fit2, so no problems there. 🙂
Can i use Thule Chicco adapter for keyfit 2 on urban glide?
Yes- we purchased the Thule Chicco adapter for the Urban Glide and the KeyFit2 fits perfectly.
When this seat is in the toddler 2 position can it still remove from the base as easily as it does during the stage one position? Example: if toddle falls asleep on the car seat and you want to carry it inside can it easily detach from the base in stage 2 position?
Thanks
Hi Kerrie – yes, it detaches from the base very easily in both stage 1 and stage 2 positions. HTH!
Is the Fit2 compatible with the city jogger gt mini stroller?
The dimensions seem similar between the two carseats. However, do you think the differences are enough to affect fitting a 3-car seat in-a-row configuration? Thanks!
How does it fit in a subaru outback?
I think I know the answer to this question but can you use the chicco keyfit30 base with the keyfit2 or do you have to buy all new bases? Same question for the magic or any other newer model Thanks.
Hi Jamie – All of the KeyFit models (original, magic, zip, etc.) utilize the same base but these bases will NOT work with Fit2. Fit2 is a completely different seat with a completely different base. HTH!
Hi There! This is not so much a comparison question, as a question about the Keyfit 30. Does anyone know if there’s a toddler car seat that Chicco makes that can fit into the Keyfit base?
Hi Jennie – no, something like that doesn’t exist, unfortunately. The only seat that will fit on a Keyfit base is a Keyfit. Chicco does make a toddler seat (NextFit) but it doesn’t attach to a base that stays in the car. HTH!
How does the Fit2 compare in crash testing? I don’t see that it has been reviewed by consumer reports
Unfortunately, there is no system of comparable crash test ratings for any carseat that correlates to real-world injury or fatality data. Even Consumer Reports testing has limitations, for example, their methodology is not published or peer-reviewed and their proprietary testing only considers one type of frontal impact. Plus, their weighting system for crash testing has issues, shown clearly in the change in rating for the Keyfit 30 in the last report, even though no new test was completed. As such, while it is interesting data, it really is not a comprehensive measure of crash safety. At this time, there just is no way to compare the overall safety of carseats in the USA.
I am all but sold on a keyfit 30 magic but am very curious about the Fit2’s head support. On one hand I love the idea of the additional safety and support during car ride naps (less floppy to the side head?), but my main concern is the head support pushing and infants head too far forward and thus potentially closing the airway. Can you provide further details on how far forward the headrest in the Fit2 could position an infants head?
Thank you so much for all of these high qualities reviews on this page; I’ve checked here when buying my infant seat, convertible and booster for our first child.
Hi Darthdad – thanks for the kind words! We appreciate it. The issues with a newborn’s head being pushed forward on the Fit2 can be easily resolved – just take out the little additional insert they stick in the headrest. Without that additional cushion, the head is able to lie flat beautifully. In my pictures with the preemie doll, you’ll see that I removed that extra head insert. In the picture with the 7-month old, the insert is still there but it doesn’t affect her negatively because she has total head and neck control. It’s also possible that the extra head insert wouldn’t be a problem for a healthy full-term newborn but you can always remove it if you prefer how your baby fits without it. HTH!
Hi,
How does the Fit2 compare to the Uppababy Mesa?
Hi Mara, can you be more specific about what you are looking to compare between these 2 models? Features? Measurements? Pros & Cons? Have you read our UPPAbaby MESA review here: https://carseatblog.com/26029/on-the-up-and-up-with-the-uppababy-mesa-infant-carseat-review/
What stroller is the Fit2 compatiable with?
I have currently have a Key Fit 30 got into an accident and am getting a new seat. Was thinking about maximizing my portions with the Fit2 and can use it for the future with other children. The only issue I have with the Key fit 30 is how much my guy sweats, does the Fit2 have the same issue?
Bottom line, do you think the Fit2 is worth the money over the KeyFit 30? As a soon-to-be first time mom, I’m trying to decide if it makes sense to spend more on the Fit2… I realize that it can potentially last two full years and prolong needing to buy a toddler seat, but at some point we are going to have to buy two toddler car seats for each of our cars. From what I know (which isn’t much ;), we will still have to invest in the same number of car seats. Right? Thanks in advance for your opinion!
Hi Valerie, congrats on your imminent arrival! What you gain (by spendng more money on Fit2) is more options. Most kids will outgrow KeyFit before 12 months but with Fit2 you have the option to keep them in that first seat much longer. You have the option to make the seat more upright after 9 months. You have the option to travel with a carrier by plane or taxi much longer. You have the option to install with Euro baltpath routing on the occasions when you aren’t using the base. And it’s possible that you could skip the convertible seat and move directly to a stage 3 forward-facing combination seat if you don’t plan to rear-face beyond 24 months. Ovbiously, if you want to keep your child rear-facing for as long as possible then you will still need a convertible seat eventually but again, it’s all about increasing your options. HTH!
This was all super helpful, thank you so much! Who knew picking a car seat (or any baby items for that matter) would be such a process 🙂
We’re parents too so we totally understand! Glad we could help and good luck with your decision. 🙂
I say yes.
My daughter outgrew the 30 at 6 months, (she was 29.5 inches, so I moved her to a convertible.) At 24 months, she is only now 36 inches. I could have used the fit2 until she was almost 23 months! Versus 6 months.
Very worth it.
Is the KeyFit 30 or Fit2 compatible with the Bugaboo Chameleon Stroller (Manufactured in 2010 – 1st Generation model) using the Bugaboo carseat adapter?
Hi HM, unfortunately I have no idea. But Bugaboo customer service should be able to answer that question. They might not know about Fit2 since it’s a brand new seat but they should know if the KeyFit 30 will work. Good luck!
It depends! The chicco 30 fits bugaboo and chicco, but is the fit2 wider? If wider, it might not fit due to spacing.
Can I use the fit2 with the stroller for keyfit30?? I have the stroller/travel system for keyfit30 and want to change the car seat only. Are they compatible?
Hi Faisal, it depends on which Chicco stroller you have already. Fit2 is compatible with some of them but not all. We have a list of Chicco strollers that Fit2 will work with in the review.
Hello Faisal,
My wife and I had the same question when we looked into the Keyfit 2 and we went to BabyRus to actually check it out in person and try to fit the Keyfit 2 into the stroller for Keyfit 30 (which is called the Bravo stroller) and it fit perfectly and snug and super easy as well.
My wife and I have never felt so sure about a stroller and car seat combo like the Bravo stroller and Keyfit 2! It most definitely works. It is just a new carseat and no one has any reviews on it so far, so that’s why it’s so hard to find the answer!
Hopefully this helps!
I am mostly interested in this for the anti-rebound bar component on the base. I already have a KeyFit 30 that’s only 2 years old. Is this feature worth it? Why don’t more infant seats have anti-rebound bars? The bases are so expensive for the Fit 2, but it would also give me more time before I have to buy a third and fourth convertible. Looks like both seats work with the new Bravo for 2!
Hi Tekari, I wouldn’t buy the Fit2 *just* to have an anti-rebound bar. While it’s a feature that I like, it’s not something that I consider critical for the safety of my baby. However, you’re getting a lot more than just an ARB with the Fit2. If you’re on a budget and money is a factor then I’d tell you to stick with your KeyFit 30 (especially since it’s only 2 years old). If the cost of a Fit2 plus the cost of an extra base isn’t really a issue then I think you can easily justify the purchase. Good luck with your decision!
