We had an opportunity to meet with the inventor of mifold booster, Jon Sumroy, at the 2015 ABC Kids Expo. There has been a lot of buzz about this innovative new product and we were excited to get our first look at it. Thankfully we can report that we were not disappointed and even though this is still in prototype stage, we are very excited and optimistic about the final product!
Based on feedback received on our forums at Car-Seat.org, they did slightly redesign the original Mifold model for the American market in order to increase the likelihood of earning a Best Bet fit rating from the IIHS.

Is this seat regulated by the consumer product safety commission? I’m a Family Daycare provider and was curious if this could be used with my older enrollment and son?
I like that they have addressed making the lap belt guides easier to use.
I am mostly concerned that shorter legged booster riders, who won’t have any place to bend their knees will slide down and put the lap belt in an incorrect position.
I still don’t see how the lap belt placement is right –it seems to be across the tops of the thighs, not across the pelvis.
Well, color me green with envy! Wish I could have been there! I pre-ordered mine the first day, and my kiddo still needs a seat in at least one of my cars, so I can’t wait to get it!
Yay. So glad he was receptive to the input he got. I can’t wait to see it upon release.
Hi … this is Jon. It was Great to meet all of you this week. Thanks for the time, it was fun.
Regarding the IIHS ‘Best Bet’ rating … on this link you can see a photo from their test with the IIHS graph rating zone. I hope that you can see how perfectly the belts actually fit.

From what i can see I wouldn’t call that perfect… I think it looks BETTER but hard to tell because of the angle. I’m interested to see how positioning of the lap belt is in a variety of real vehicles. Time will tell 🙂
Keep in mind that this was a prototype booster I sat on and Jon didn’t have a current model with appropriately positioned belt guides for me to try. Like we said in the post, mifold is doing their due diligence to make this a great booster.
Oh, that is good to hear and explains why it looks the same as the promo photos. I was expecting this is to be the updated design that was used for the IIHS preliminary evaluation. I’ll be excited to see the updated design.
Yes… That makes much more sense! I thought this WAS the changed prototype and was unimpressed lol
I know a lot of people pre ordered this booster seat back in December. I am dying to get mine.
My daughter is 6 years old, and I know she is so over sitting in those big bulky car seats! She wants to be A BIG GIRL and feel like one too!
Do you know when the inventor will be sending the back up orders from December to all his customers?
I am tired of waiting but i understand why there is a wait. I have been waiting over 5 months now, and I am wondering when we will get it. That is all!
Sincerely,
Shabana
I agree with Ketchupqueen. It doesn’t look like they actually changed anything on the lap guides. I think on a bigger child (or adult demo) the lap belt position is fine, but it doesn’t look like the lap guides were moved back in order to actually contact the pelvis on a child at the low end of the approved weight range. I can’t see this providing a “Best Bet” fit on a 40 lb child.
That shoulder clip is awesome.
I’m stillnot completely thrilled with the lap belt positioning honestly. Hopefully it would be better on an actual child. I guess we shall see!
Great info, thanks. Wish I could have been there!
