Child restraints have saved lives again. This time in a very visible way, a way that we as advocates don’t have to preach about. Unfortunately, the outcome was bittersweet. The children survived without harm, but everyone else in the 15 person church van died, as did the truck driver who hit them, on the Kentucky highway. It’s a tragedy when entire families get wiped out, yet there’s hope when parents care enough to make sure their children are strapped in as safely as they know how. The entire country mourns with these little boys and their close-knit community.

It’s so sad about the infant, but there are some crashes that are just unsurvivable.
My dh is an NTSB investigator and CPST-I. He has permission for me to post these comments:
All three children were restrained in child restraints.
The NTSB will be looking into child restraint usage and potential misuses as factors in the crash.
The infant was restrained in an infant seat, but was in the intrusion zone of the van.
My parents live near where this happend. It was horrible. The semi hit the van head on. They where on their way to a wedding. It was a amish family and some friends. Who had also lost their house a few months ago in a fire. They haven’t said anything about if the baby that died was in a car seat or not.
I wonder what seat the baby was in that didn’t make it or if baby was in a seat. Those seats are expired the older children were in, it’s amazing how well even older seats can protect someone.
