Black Friday shopping just ain’t my thing. I think I’d rather clean puked-on carseats all day than wake up at 3:30 AM to freeze my butt off outside waiting for stores to open so I could battle with hordes of crazy New Yorkers (and that says a lot because I absolutely loathe cleaning puked-on carseats). I know some people look forward to this insane ritual every year but not me. I love a good deal as much as the next person but I just never understood the attraction to Black Friday shopping. Then again, I feel the same way about New Year’s Eve in Times Square. I was born and raised in Manhattan but never once did I even consider doing the Times Square thing on New Year’s.
But I’m always curious. Did anyone brave the early morning crowds and snag any awesome deals today?
So, the usually year for us is: I drop off DH and a kid or two of at Best Buy at 6 P.M., Thanksgiving Day. I help them set up an awning, then I go home. I get up early and go to any stores on our list. Then I go back to Best Buy, to meet up with DH, in line. We are all done by 11 A.M.
So, this year, I did the sock sale at Fred Meyers. That’s is. Oh, I did go to Target. I didn’t start shopping until 10:30 a.m. There wasn’t as much good stuff. That’s ok. The money was tight anyway.
My husnabd did not go out untill 8:30 but we did get 2 Garmin 200 gps systems for $97, maega sp? blocks for $10 at walmart and a treadmill for $600 (50% off) at sports something (cant remember the full name). But we really dont get up early to go out shopping we wake up at a normal time and eat something get dressed and go out and just see if anything is left that we want. I also did shopping online at gymboree with their 30% off and then the code someone gave me at car-seat.org for 20%.
I’m still shopping online as we speak, haven’t actually bought anything today yet though. After hearing some of the AWFUL stories of people getting hurt and killed today by the masses, I think it should be stopped. Normally I’d say people should just learn to behave, but they’re obviously not going to. I totally don’t get why the deals on Black Friday? Who started this anyways? I mean, if the store is going to do the deals, they should just do them whenever, not all on the same day, competing with each other and causing mass hysteria. Also, I looked through the Black Friday ads, and despite awful economy this year, the deals didn’t look nearly as good as they have in years past. One of our local malls opened at midnight and gave $25 gift cards to the first 1,000 people. Now, why couldn’t they have done that any day they wanted instead of the day after Thanksgiving?
Do you guys see that picture up there? See the the guy on the right leaning over the counter? For about 3 minutes I thought he was really skinny and had some serious BACK HAIR! No, that’s just a well placed hand.
Nothing. I looked online but didn’t buy anything.
I stayed home for the first time in years. I did my shopping online last night before I went to bed. I actually think it’s kind of fun to go, but didn’t see anything worth dragging myself out that early for. I’m really hoping for some major deals in the next few weeks.
Not a thing. I worked instead. I didn’t see one thing worth going to the store over…
Not I! We did go out to brunch with ILs, which was bad enough (I think we had a 20 minute wait to be seated), and then we went to a furniture store to buy a new kitchen table. The parking lot was full, but the store didn’t seem overly busy.
I did not go out at all today but I did go shopping yesterday, on Thanksgiving. We celebrated on Sunday so I was on my own yesterday and free to go as I pleased! I was on the look-out for a certain Transformer and found it at the third Walmart I meandered through. 🙂
Not many people out, very peaceful!
I’m with you, Kecia, and haven’t braved the Black Friday hoards since I was pregnant with my oldest daughter 7 years ago. The crazy shopper wildly shoving her cart around a blind corner at Target and nearly ramming me in the very pregnant stomach was a memorable “highlight” of my last Black Friday outing. 🙁 This year, I slept in on Black Friday after ordering Sony wireless headphones (1/2 off from Sears.com) and a deeply discounted Garmin Nuvi GPS unit from Amazon on Thanksgiving Day. I’m also keeping my eyes peeled for deals on Cyber Monday right after this weekend.
I saw an article on our local newspaper’s website about several teenage/college aged young men who pitched a tent at Best Buy’s front door at 7 a.m. on Thanksgiving morning to be first in line when the store opened at 5 a.m. on Black Friday. They were intending to buy doorbuster items to resell according to the article, and their families had postponed Thanksgiving dinner until later on Black Friday to accommodate their campout vigil. Not my cup of tea at all, but as they say, different strokes for different folks.
We’ve never gotten up early to hit the deals and this year was no exception.
I did wander the downtown shops this afternoon with DD, my mom and sisters. DD got 2 books and a Starbucks and a candy cane for our donation to the Salvation Army. Seemed reasonable to put 4 bucks in the pot after I got DD a 4 dollar peppermint mocha twist, right?
DW is off shopping for a new winter parka.
Not a doggone thing. I stayed up late last night (after a fun and exhausting Thanksgiving celebration at my cousin’s house), slept in late, and was perfectly happy. Honestly, I can’t think of anything I’d wait in line like that for.
