We all know that car seats help prevent injuries in kids. Anyone who has installed a few also knows they tend to cause injuries in the adults who are installing them. Broken nails, scraped knuckles, smashed toes, bruised shins: I’ve had them all, and then some. Today was a first, though.
I was carrying a boxed car seat through the house and needed to hoist it up to clear a kitchen chair and a serving cart. Somehow I lost my grip and the box slipped out of my hands. Luckily it only fell an inch or two onto the chair and cart I was trying to avoid, but when my hands slipped off, they also flew up…into my face. One of my finger nails jabbed my nose, leaving an unsightly and rather painful gouge.
So, tell us: What unusual carseat-related injuries have you endured?
I hurt my shoulder during my CPST course! For days after I kept trying to figure out what I did to my shoulder, and I finally figured out that I injured one of the ligaments while installing a Cosco Scenera!
Is Dorel out to get us? LOL
I know there have been more, but I definitely remember getting a long scratch on the back of my hand trying to install our @&*($% Guide65 using the seatbelt. I still hate that seat, for so many reasons (the difficulty getting the seatbelt through the RF path being only one!).
The worst was a bruise on my wrist and I broke my thumb nail in half. Even though it hurt terribly. I reminded myself my sons safety was totally worth it and that nails grow back. lol
We also have an RXT, some brutal, tough seats.. I have had the carry strap slip & the seat smack into my hip several times.. & the stupid narrow RF belt path, soo many scraped fingers.
I have permanent scars from Dorel seats–the most prominent is on my wrist. I’ve had bruises to my legs from schlepping seats to and from cars.
The worst I had was an RXT to the knee. I limped for days.
Ouch! That looks painful! I’m pretty sure I have permanent bruises from several Radian battles over the years. And I know I’ve had my toes and the top of my foot smashed by the base of a falling TurboBooster when I made the mistake of carrying it by the back.
