The Maxi-Cosi RodiFix booster was on display at ABC and I gravitated towards it immediately upon entering the Dorel booth. I’m really excited to see a booster without armrests available in the U.S. again! For those of us who once owned and loved a previous highback booster without armrests from a different manufacturer – I will tell you that this one reminded me a lot of that other product, except better. Rigid LATCH attachments, Air Protect Technology in the headwings, a super-cool shoulder belt guide and a real recline feature. Yeah, the Maxi-Cosi RodiFix is officially awesome! 🙂
Maxi-Cosi RodiFix has just started shipping to retailers and is available at Baby Specialty Stores and at Amazon.com. $249.
New Safety 1st “Store n’ Go” boosters coming soon – should be available by the end of this year.
- Minimum 4 years and 40 lbs
- HBB $59.99; Backless version $24.99
- Measured 22.5″ to shoulder belt guide on highback model
- Like all Dorel boosters, will require adequate head support from vehicle headrest
New Cosco “Light n’ Comfy” infant seat will replace Comfy Carry
- Carrier will be very similar to current Comfy Carry
- Base will be redesigned so carrier can’t be lifted off back of base when secured (to be clear – the Comfy Carry base attachment is totally safe but being able to lift it off the back of the base once it’s locked on freaks some people out so they’re redesigning the base not to do that)
- Will be available at various price points, depending on features – just like Comfy Carry models (rear-adjust/front adjust/adjustable base, etc)
- $59 for rear adjust model, $69 & $79 for “Elite & Elite Plus” models with more/better features
- Production starts December
A POTENTIAL new fashion for Pria and Prezi. If you love them – call or email your local specialty retailers and insist that they order these! This one is called “Bohemian Blue”.
Cosco Apt 40 RF Convertible & Comfy Carry Infant Seat in “Mickey” & “Minnie” fashions. I believe these are definitely going to hit the market but I have no other details at the moment.
I’m drooling over the Rodifix… It wouldn’t be crazy to need one or two as spares, would it? *looks innocent*
I love that Rodifix! Looks very nice. unfortunately will not work in our car since I like to put her in the center where we don’t have a headrest and don’t have LATCH so the extra money for rigid LATCH features is not worth it. 🙁
Oh my oh my oh my… that Rodifix is mine. I’ve been wanting a Rodi for over a decade now, thanks to the OEAMTC webpage and the great reviews, but now it’s ever so much better…and it will fit my almost-8 year old for a couple years before it gets handed down to our now-2 yo niece.
Love the RodiFix! I WAS an owner of a long ago armrest-less booster, and have so missed it. Yay for unscraped hands! When tye booster is beside another CRS or in a 3-across, that is.
I love the look of the Rodifix! I loved our original Parkways and it reminds me so much of it. Is there any way there will be a latch-less version available at a better price point? I’d buy the Rodifix in a heartbeat; it’s the price that stops me. But it’s still an awesome looking seat!
The Minnie and Mickey fashions are cute! Would be cuter to have the mickey/minnie still be around after the headrest was removed. Not that I have a kid that will fit in those seats anyway… Since the Rodi requires the vehicle head support, I’d assume the Rodifx does as well. Looks nice, but not in booster budget. I like the color versions of the Store ‘n go.
I am not sure the link I posted above is for the US version of the Rodifix.
I cannot wait for your review of the RodiFix. I am hoping it will work with Volvo headrests. Also, I am curious if the recline is for when the booster is installed in a seat with a recline feature or is it something that can be used in any car (as in a gap is allowed between the booster seat and the car’s seat back. If so, would that mean it would have more potential to be used in a situation with a head rest that sticks out?
Crossing my fingers for good news in your review! I have gone to http://www.maxi-cosi.com/products/car-seats/car-fitting.aspx When I look up a 2012 Volvo S80 it says the Rodifix is a good fit for seat belt (it does not have results for isofix for some reason) so I have some hope this may work.
@Canadiangie – it’s not in my notes because I lost my notes but I’m almost positive that we asked (we asked everyone that question!)and I’m almost positive that the answer was yes but let me follow up on that one and confirm. I’ll keep you posted!
@Stephanie – have you checked our list of recommended seats? The link is at the top of this page. We have convertibles in all different price ranges that we recommend. You definitely want a convertible so he can stay rear-facing until at least age 2, preferably beyond that – but at a minimum until his 2nd birthday. There are a few convertibles that also convert into decent booster seats but I would focus on getting a seat that’s going to meet his needs for the next 3-5 years and then get the latest and greatest booster once you’re at the point where he needs a booster. By that point, it will be a completely different booster market and you’ll get to take advantage of the latest advances in safety features.
I am in the market for a new convertible seat for my 20lb one year-old boy. Man they are EXPENSIVE and i will need to buy TWO. I want to get something safe, affordable and one that will see him through the rest if his carseat-needing career if I’m going to spend the hard-earned dollars. Anyone have any suggestions?!?! Please!
Is RodiFix coming to Canada.
Please, please tell me it is.
well.
*swoon*
@Jennifer – it’s hard to comment on compatibility because there are so much variables depending on the contours of the head restraint, the height setting of the booster, etc. But yes, this booster is going to require adequate support from the vehicle’s head restraint. I think the recline feature might be helpful in cases where you run into issues with head restraint compatibility. We’ll be sure to cover this in our full review!
Being dorel, will the maxi cosi also require vehicle head rest support? And do you think it will work with headrests that push slightly forward?
@CTBCCLEVLAND – I don’t disagree that it’s pricey and out of the budget range for a lot of families but the only other rigid LATCH highback boosters (Kiddy Cruiserfix Pro & Clek Oobr) are also pricey. Rigid LATCH is a great feature but unfortunately it’s not a cheap feature for manufacturers to include on their products.
I’d be a lot more excited for the Max Cosi Booster if it came at a reasonable price point. Both Britax and Graco are offering high-back latchable boosters at much better prices. Cute design, though.
