Babies R Us is doing their trade-in event again: turn in old baby gear, including carseats, and you’ll get a 25% off coupon to use in the store that day. It’s a great time to get rid of expired or crashed carseats, or recalled baby items. Items accepted include any used cribs, car seats, bassinets, strollers, travel systems, play yards, high chairs, kids’ beds, swings, walkers, bouncers and entertainers. If you have more than one item to turn in, I suggest going on separate days to turn in the items to take advantage of the coupon.
The event begins Friday, August 26, and runs through Sunday, September 18. There’s a bit more information here: www.toysrusinc.com/press-room/releases/general/2011/toysrus-inc.-helps-parents-keep-kids-safe-with-great-trade-in-event.
So, tell us–what carseat will you be trading in? Or, if you’re using the coupon, what carseat will you be buying? Is there a great story behind the carseat?
Do you know if you can trade in just the car seat base? I was in an accident and just the base was in my car, so I replaced but don’t know what to do with it. It would be great to trade it in and get a coupon!
Hi Ally. No, BRU won’t accept just the base in trade-in. You’ll have to include the carrier as well.
Does the carseat have to be already expired or can it be expiring soon. I have an infant carrier that expires in December 2015. I want to exchange it will I be allowed if the exchange dates are August thru September?
Stacey, they accept any used carseat, so yours should be good for exchange.
Heather, do you know if the coupon can be used on the diono brand? and do you know when in August it will be?
Jessica, I don’t remember off the top of my head if Diono is one of the brands allowed on the trade-in coupon, but I believe it is. The trade-in event usually coincides with baby safety month, which is September, so I’d guess it’d be later in August, but you’ll have to call to verify.
@Marisa, I think they do the trade-in events twice a year. IIRC, it’s around February for the event in the winter.
I’m upset, I missed this event because I need a new carseat and have 2 to trade-in, along with other items. Does anyone else do the trade-in or just toysrus & babysrus? when’s the next one?
Has anyone got the coupon and tried to bring it to buybuybaby???
I believe the coupon has to be used in-store, but some of the stores will let you use it on a special order made that day.
In Canada the trade-in coupons can’t be used for online purchases, I’m not sure if it’s different in the US or not.
I believe it can be used online and think that they have computers in-store that you can use to have it shipped to the store. But! Let me ask a couple of our BRU friends to find out for sure!
Does the coupon have to be used in the store? Can it be used online? If the store doesn’t have the car seat I want, can they order it for me at the store so that I can use the coupon? Thanks!
Oh, and Toys ‘R Us does the trade ins as well.
I work at Babies ‘R Us and you don’t have to come on separate days to trade in multiple items. You will be given a coupon for each item traded in, which can then be used to purchase a new item from the list of items you gave above (not just anything from the store). You can only use one coupon per new baby gear item purchased and you CAN use the coupon on clearance gear items as well.
I gave a car seat that I found at a donation box to someone to trade in for a new stroller that they need. 🙂
How often they do this event
Our extra seat was in a crash (unoccupied at the time), so I plan to trade that in just to ensure it is properly disposed of. Now, what to buy with my coupon? 😀
I sometimes bring in seats I’ve collected to dispose of, then give away the coupons along with my business card and advice to parents who are seat shopping. 😀
I have a 10 year old Evenflo infant seat (brand new, never used, probably never seen the light of day) and a 20-something year old Fisher Price playard (that’s missing parts)… however, the nearest trade-in is 120 miles away, and the trade-in dates have all ended about a week before I’m going to be in that town. 🙁
