I don’t know who to be more scared for–the deer or the girl. Kacee Larson of Iowa has hit 5 deer in the last 12 months. Perhaps she needs to read Ulrike’s blog post on how to react when encountering deer. I do like the part in the article where the police use the phrase “don’t veer for deer,” because drivers who do can roll their vehicles or drive into oncoming traffic.
Of course, I’m not at all making fun of Kacee. My deer of choice when I was 16 was a Volvo.
Wow! Good advice from the police, though. My mom has a cousin who is paralyzed from the waist down because he “veered for a deer.”
That’s not a “car accident.” That’s POACHING. 😉
I’m glad Kacee is OK, though.
When I had my learners permit I was driving down a (very long) stretch of country road to my highschool (15 minutes away, uh, yeah, boonies). My mom was in the passenger seat. A deer jetted out in front of me and my mom, in her infinite wisdom, stuck her hand out in front of me, pulling my arms off the stearing wheel as I’m braking.
Fun times.
