It goes to 40 pounds rear-facing. It goes to 50 pounds forward-facing. It also has Air Protect, “the most innovative and groundbreaking safety feature ever offered in a car seat. Developed in conjunction with Kettering University’s renowned Crash Safety Center, Air Protect™ is designed to protect children in side impact collisions, putting a state-of-the-art layer of air protection where it’s needed most, around the child’s head.”
Not only that, but it’s created a lot of buzz at the Car-Seat.Org forums. This thread is less than a week old and it’s already one of the most viewed on the forums and has almost 250 posts in it so far. We hope to have a full review of the Safety 1st Complete Air with Air Protect at CarseatBlog.com later this summer!

What do you think? Will you be making a pre-order?
Witnessed a medium impact (35~40MPH) collision today. A Ford Escape got hit in the rear passenger door and knocked around 180 degrees. A small child about 6 months or so was in an Air Protect seat in the middle rear. He seemed a bit shocked by the accident, but the EMTs said that he was fine.
My wife and I are about to buy a convertible seat for our son, and now I’m giving some serious consideration to the Air Protect line.
I am not the designer, but I can verify that there is one cupholder that can be placed on either side of the seat. I also have two reviews on this model. You can find them here at these links-

We will have a third review from another reviewer in the near future also!
I was in a car accident today, so now I have to replace my seat. I have a Comfortsport Graco. I really like it forward facing. I do want to turn him back around though. So now I get to get a new seat and I am looking at this one. To the designer, does it have a cup holder? lol not my only question. I am worried about it being new and not having reviews, that I can find anyway.
Most extended weight seats are tall by necessity. They will all block your view to some extent. If this is an issue, a shorter 40 pound rated model is a better option. As for installation, I suggest that you see a certified technician for a checkup to see if they can give you some tips on a correct installation before you return it.
just received the carseat. very difficult to install in our compact, and even then, it was not sturdy. followed the instructions to a tee. the seat also sat very upright in the window seats. moved it to the center rear, but the shell height was too high and obstructed the view to the rear window. very nice fabric, but very difficult to install and to remain sturdy… at least in our mazda 3 compact. seriously thinking of returning it
On the fence about preordering this carseat.
I am a not satisfied with the height and weight restrictions, considering the price, I would expect the product to be functional for larger children as well. Why not make a product 65 lbs forward facing? It seems odd to not offer the same safety option for older children considering they require a car seat or booster as well. Otherwise, the video was very compelling and it looks like a quality product.
I am always curious to see what type of feedback and questions come up in this blog. I am the inventor of this seat for Safety 1st and wouldn’t mind answering some of the serious questions. You post them and I will try my best to answer them.
It’s very hard to tell from photos, but it almost looks as if the air protect cushions simply replace the EPS foam and plastic shell in the headwings. Those materials absorb energy, too. It’s impossible to say which would be better, though the air protect cushions certainly don’t make the seat any wider. The side impact cushions on the Advocate are an additional layer of protection outside the frame of the seat, so it seems to be quite a different mechanism of protection to me.
I’d like to know how it compares to the Britax Advocate CS with it’s True Side Impact Protection.
I would like to see it in the flesh! It’s great to see another 40lbs RF seat on the market….just hoping it means that SKJP and Britax will be getting on the band wagon VERY soon! I am not a fan of Dorel group seats to say the least, but who knows….this could be the seat that turns that around.
not pre-ordering by any means. But realizing my coccoro won’t last longer than 2 years RF, and already planning its replacement. Almost wishing i had waited. Almost.
I don’t think $250 is really out of line, either. People have been paying $200 for the old EB 3n1 for years, for a mediocre at best seat. They’ll pay $350 for a BV. I think this one is priced top shelf but not ridiculously so (like the Advocate or SG). I’m really excited to see it. Not impressed at all with MR65, so glad to see another (and, looks like, better) 40 pound RF seat!
I think it sounds great so far! Of course, I’d love to know more about the harness and shell height before ordering but so far, it looks like this might be my only hope of keeping both of my kids RF as long as possible, so if DH approves, I might be preordering. 🙂
I am excited for this seat. I’m not pre-ordering though, I’d like to see it in person first. My son is 18 months, and still fits rear facing with a lot of room in his Safety First Uptown, so we have time to decide if this will be the seat for us.
