I vote the overloaded pickup. Having watched a pickup flip off the interstate right in front of us, the first picture gave me the shivers. (Driver was fine, btw, thanks to his seatbelt. The trees he sailed through and the pickup he was towing, not so much.)
I saw something similar to the above overloaded truck a couple years ago on I-75 in Ohio, a fairly decent Dodge pickup with trailer (with a patio set on top!). I was concerned, so I decided to pass. As I was about side-by-side with the truck, I thought “Whew!”
Not a second after that, the grill flew off the front of the truck and just barely missed my windshield when I swerved to miss it.
I’m glad that the truck was super overloaded and got my attention, otherwise I might not have been paying enough attention to react that quickly and avoid a truck grill in my face…
So I guess I think that pic is scarier!
In fairness, I had my wife take the pic of the overloaded truck. There was a pretty good chance I’d need both hands on the wheel to dodge a cooler or mattress… Plus, it had to be taken quickly. He was doing 75mph, while I was cruising at 65mph or so to keep my fuel economy above 30mpg!
Not too long ago, I was privileged to get on the freeway behind a pickup carrying a conference table in its bed. This was probably a 12-14′ tall conference table on its end, so sticking straight up. The truck was going about 20 mph–ON THE FREEWAY. It’s so easy to go to any Home Depot or Lowes and rent a truck for a few hours that would accommodate hauling something like that, it makes me shake my head. But I like how Darren has no shame in taking pics while he drives, tsk tsk tsk. 😉

the backward semi made my heart skip a beat… seriously… I thought I was gonna die.
The other one makes me wonder what happened when (not if) things started falling.
the backward semi is scarier. Not because it’s going the wrong way (being towed, I’m sure), but because you were obviously driving when you snapped the pic. 😉

Were you keeping safe distance behind the overloaded truck? This is a good opportunity to plug my previous post on road debris: https://carseatblog.com/9117/bumps-in-the-road/
My heart also skipped at beat at that semi.

Guilty!
