Today it’s a double bonus for your viewing enjoyment! We will have a Britax Advocate 70 G3 review coming soon to CarseatBlog.com, along with a number of other reviews we’ve promised and we really are working on them!
Today’s unboxing includes new Britax Advocate 70 G3 along with the Britax Vehicle Seat Protector and Infant Head and Body Support Pillow. The new G3 series of convertible seats will be available within a month or so, while the accessories are available now. Key changes to the G3 model are the EZ-Buckle system that keeps the buckle forward so you don’t have to dig it out from under your child all the time. In addition, the new HUGS system with SafeCell technology offers improved crash performance. Current Britax owners will notice that the HUGS pads no longer float like they did before, as they are tethered to the seat. That means that you can no longer pull on the HUGS pads to loosen the straps. Instead, you have to make sure to pull on the straps themselves to loosen them. These updates also apply to the other G3 models, including the Marathon 70 G3, the Boulevard 70 G3 and the Pavillion 70 G3 (the updated version of the Boulevard 70 CS).
Here’s a shot with Jon in the Advocate 70 G3. You can see he has reached the harness height limit of the seat (I’m so sad he’s now outgrowing convertibles!). His shoulders are barely able to fit inside the shell and are almost up to the head wings as well. Granted, he just turned 7 years old last month and was around the 75th percentile for height and weight at nearly 57 pounds and 52″ tall. So, I expect most kids will fit until they are at least 6 years old and some well beyond that.

Hi,
My son is 13 1/2 months old and we just ordered the Britax Advocate 70 G3 for him. At first we were concerned about getting this model since reviews at Amazon stated that the harness straps were too short (one reviewer said shorter then the Advocate 70 GS) and we were concerned about our child outgrowing this seat too soon. When we went to the store to try it out, we tried pulling on the HUGS rubber to length the straps but they didn’t get very long which concerned us. Then we reached father up and pulled on the black straps themselves and the straps became much longer. Now that I read your blog review, I see how some parents may think the straps are too short if they do not know to pull on the strap themselves and not on the HUGS rubber. While this is an expensive car seat, we got a good deal at Amazon and luckily can afford to purchase this. Thanks for the photo of your son in the seat which reconfirms that it does fit much larger children.

I am very much looking forward to your review of the Britax Advocate 70 G3, We have decided to get either the Advocate 70 CS or the G3, but not sure if it is worth the extra $50 for the G3 safecell harness feature at the moment, with limited reviews and use since it was just released. Any idea when the review is scheduled to be published? The seats are on sale and we need to jump on it! Would appreciate any help on the matter! Thanks!
I’m anxiously awaiting your review of this product! My son is about to outgrow his bucket car seat and we are trying to decide on a convertible. I’m having a really hard time deciding on whether to get the older version or the new G3. I basically want to know how worth it the ez buckle is and if it is worth the wait. We are headed on a trip next week and so I either have to get the G2 now so he can enjoy it for the long trip or I have to wait and get the G3 afterwards…decisions decisions!
Will Gen 2 covers still fit?
“Britax Advocate 70 G3.” While I understand not wanting to change your product name every time you revamp, this seems almost ridiculous to me. While it solves the issue of, well, “WHICH Britax Marathon you mean- Classic, 70, G2, etc.?” I can’t think of any parent that is going to remember mouthfuls like this. Can’t we just do it like cars? “Hello, I drive a 2007 Mazda 5 and have a 2011 Combi Coccoro, a 2010 Radian, a …” Hey, that might even cut down on expired seat use! AND, manufacturers, you might get consumers wanting to buy new seats more often so they can “drive” newer model years.
For those who like the EZ Buckle feature – if you buy a new G3 version cover (which will work on a G2 since that’s what Britax sent to replace a defective cover) you’ll get the belly pad that makes for the EZ buckle function.
Depending on price I would consider buying the HUGS w/ Safe Cell if they offered them a la carte.
ROFL! Heather, you crack me up! The vehicle seat protector is really nice. At first glance it looks like the old Prince Lionheart one but it’s much thinner and the material is much more flexible.
Ah, but the seat protector really is quite thin even though it looks thick. For your vehicle seat’s pleasure >>> Giggle ;). Is it like the original Prince Lionheart, Heather? Looks like it… man I miss that product…

LOL, I love your kid! (Not in, like, a creepy way.) That seat protector still looks so thick. I definitely want to learn more about that. I like the print on the Advocate, and the HUGS match nicely. Sort of a retro look they’ve got going on there.
I think the leg support is pretty typical for a mid-size convertible. My son has more of his length in the legs, plus he’s at the limit, so I suspect it probably would not be comfortable for him on a long trip.
I certainly would not suggest buying this seat or really any convertible for a 3-7 year old. It’s great for them to continue using from the time they were 0-2 years old, but if you are buying a new seat for an older child, a combination model like the Britax Frontier 85 is a much better choice.
Looks like the seat is lacking in leg support. Even though my 7 year old could fit, I doubt it would be very comfortable!
Also — can the HUGS still be removed so the harness can fit a newborn?
My almost 4 year old has already outgrown the Britax convertibles…torso height can vary so much.
Thanks! It’s so exciting to see a double unboxing! I think the Britax seat protector looks awesome. Can’t wait for the reviews!
