No, SS isn’t for “Super Sport”, it’s for “Safety Surround”. We previewed it last fall at the ABC Kids Expo. The newest Turbo is very similar to the original high back Turbo, with the addition of improved side impact protection for the head and torso. Look for the Graco HighBack TurboBooster Car Seat with Safety Surround next week at a Target store near you! I know some of you at Car-Seat.Org have asked about the screws for adjusting the armrests and yes, they are still there. The Graco owner’s manual indicates that the useful lifespan is 10 years from the date of manufacture. Check back for our Graco Turbo Safety Surround Review soon!
TurboBooster® with Safety Surround™ – MSRP $79.99
We are excited to bring new innovation to a category that has become increasingly important as parents are beginning to keep their kids in boosters longer due to the AAP recommendation and multiple states changing their booster law requirements and recognizing the importance of booster seats for kids! We are excited to announce that TurboBooster® with Safety Surround™ will be launching exclusively at Target on May 27th both in store and online!
What makes this seat so special? As you are aware, the United States currently does not have a standard for side impact testing. Because of this, we searched the globe to find a standard we at Graco believe to be the most comprehensive – and so we decided on the European draft standard. We have taken our seats with Safety Surround™ side impact technology to Europe and tested against their draft standard to ensure that we have the best side impact protection – a side impact protection that truly grows with your child across the entire weight range of the seat.
The TurboBooster® with Safety Surround™ securely transports your big kid from 30-100 lbs. in highback mode and 40-100lbs in backless mode. The Safety Surround™ technology is integrated into the headrest as well as the side wings on the backrest ensuring the technology is there every step of the way offering a child the best head and body protection at each stage. In addition, the seat is Safe Seat Engineered and meets or exceeds all applicable US safety Standards. It has all of the great features of our top rated TurboBooster® – like hide-away cup holders and grow with me features like the height adjustable headrest and armrests, but this seat has been enhanced to provide superior side impact protection in highback mode.

- More rigorously crash tested – In addition to meeting or exceeding U.S. safety standards this seat

How can I get The gray and pink? The little girl has it in the pictures,
Hi Nathalie, that’s a good question- I hadn’t even noticed that. It is a stock Graco photo, so I suspect it’s either a pattern not yet released, or possible one from another Turbo product, since the bases are nearly identical for many of them.

Agree with the height of the car seat, if it can last for the whole time my kid needs it I would buy one
I have to agree with KQ about the height. My grandson is turning 7 next month and on the very top notch of his Turbo. Not sure what we’ll do with him when he outgrows that in our older vehicles with no head restraints. If the new Turbo adjusted higher I’d buy one in a heartbeat.
Also would have loved a nice blue cover. I like the purple but don’t see the grandson going for that.
Most kids need a booster until 10-12 years, though, and the back on the turbo doesn’t last that long for most kids. I’m just saying if they cite parents keeping kids boostered longer as a reason to make improvements, they might have considered increasing height among them.
Just a teensy weensy bit, like I said.
Are these coming to Canada?
not every kid has a super long torso and not all cars can take super tall boosters… so a variety on the market is good.
the kids who need boosters longer are more petite anyway 🙂
I’m loving the looks of this booster and cannot wait for the review!
(and does anyone else think in the stock photo of the highback mode that the headrest should have come down one notch?)
and what I wanna know… is the base portion the same size/measurements as the current backless turbobooster? I assume so, but have to ask
AND… will these fabrics be offered on backless-only seats? (the purple is calling my name)
Screws already in the armrests? Woot! Now that’s progress!
Yes, the bottom came assembled with the screws inside. I will try to get some side-by-side photos with the Argos this weekend.
Looks like the screws might already be in the armrests, if the bottom comes assembled, eh? Looks easier than putting together a regular old Turbo, for sure 🙂
And there’s a purple one! Yay!
@Karen – Definitely more SIP than a Nautilus or Argos.
I want one! I mean, my daughter does…
I like the looks of the wings, but I am a teensy weensy bit disappointed, if they recognize that parents are keeping their kids in boosters longer, they did not make it taller to last longer. My newly 6 year old is on the last setting and maybe, MAYBE has a year to grow before outgrowing the Turbo. Sigh.
It looks awesome and I’m ROFL at Jonathan!
Do you think this has more or less SIP than the Nautilus?
Look at those awesome colors!
