I lose wedding bands. Two so far. I take them off to shower. Sometimes I take them off during the night when they itch. Maybe one of my kids grabs it. Maybe it was flushed down the toilet. Maybe the cat eats it. Car key gnomes. Kleptomaniac aliens. Quite possibly just a classic case of common Y-Chromosome syndrome.
Whatever the cause, I was glad I hadn’t purchased the Platinum band I really wanted and opted instead for 18k white Gold both previous times. Even so, Gold prices have gone up a lot since I replaced my original band. My wife thinks I should just not even bother at this point, but I deem it necessary to have a symbol of our undying love and affection with me at all times. I also want to shop for a new one…
So, Platinum is out. White Gold is now too pricey to risk losing a third one, too. Is there something less expensive? Titanium is all the rage in watches and jewelry. Stainless steel sounds cheesy but may be durable and cheap. Aluminum beer can ring tabs are too hard to find these days. No, none of these were for me. I found something that appears to be impervious to scratches and only cost me $30. Enter, Cobalt free Tungsten Carbide!
Though I got the wrong size initially, Sabrina Silver swapped it without a hassle. The new one is shiny and apparently much more resistant to scratches than my white gold ones. Hopefully, I won’t need to be a repeat customer, but now I can just search Carseatblog a few years from now when I can’t remember where I got the last one!
Maybe it’d be cheaper in the long run to just get a ring tattooed onto your finger. Can’t lose it down the drain, kiddoes can’t make off with the treasure… and uh… yeah, I dunno.
But it’d make me giggle.
gold makes me itch… silver tarneshes… stainless steel is not as pretty…. I love what you found!!
I think dh and I will have to get one each for Valentine’s!!
I cannot wear a wedding band. My hands swell/unswell so much throughout the day that even when I had three different sized rings, a single one wouldn’t fit all day.
So – tattoos are fairly cheap. They tend to fade on hands pretty quickly, but getting it re-done every other year or so is still pretty inexpensive.
Then again, it hurts! 😉
One thing about Tungsten, it has it’s own appearance that isn’t going to look like white gold or platinum or titanium. Maybe closer to polished stainless? It looks sharp to me, but may not be the preference of someone else. I think you can also get them in other finshes and cuts, though.
Good tip about the wedding band. DH hasn’t lost his ring, but it’s getting worn and needs resizing, and I’m in the same boat and need to resize my wedding set. Hoping to lose weight before resizing, though, so I’m wearing an anniversary band on my left hand for now, along with experimenting with relatively inexpensive Tacori platinum clad CZ rings from QVC (such a deal compared to the spendy Tacori jewelry with genuine stones in solid gold or platinum). I finally got a blingy fake diamond ring I received for Christmas off my right hand after it was stuck on my ring finger for about 2 weeks, lol. The ring actually converts from a pendant to a ring, and I’m much better off leaving it as a pendant. Too tight and too much bling for my short fingers. :p
DH wears his ring on his neck chain when he’s at work after a few near-disasters (including losing the ring for five weeks only to have it turn up in a city ambulance’s first-in bag!) Maybe you should try that :p
LOL! Wow, you can buy *everything* on the internet!
I only wear mine when I leave the house. It used to drive dh crazy, but I wash my hands so much when I’m home that I would be constantly taking it on and off and it would drive me crazy. Plus, since it’s a solitaire with a wrap around it, it catches on everything. It’s safe in it’s little swan holder that we got for registering for our wedding at Dillard’s umpteen million years ago and a billion moves ago.
Very cool! I want new bands for our 10 year but have no clue what.
If you keep going through them pretty fast pawn shops are a great place for bands. My first came from one when I was bartending, single and worked in a bar with a bunch of old people.
I usually don’t click on these posts, but your title grabbed me. Glad you found something awesome and inexpensive. My dh has surprisingly never lost his band, even though he takes it off every night. He hooks it on his key clip thingey, and puts it on when he goes out in the morning. You should try that, lol. I lost my ring last year. Well, technically it lost itself- the entire setting broke out of the ring while I was wearing it. I never found it. 🙁 Now I just wear a channel set diamond band. I kind of like not having to worry about losing my diamond anymore. Though I def won’t complain if dh ever surprises me with a new solitaire.
I’ve never worn my full-time. (SPD= I don’t like wearing rings for very long.) I only put it on to go out. (Actually it needs re-sizing so I haven’t worn it even for special occasions in a while.) I used to keep it by my bed, but the time the kids dropped it down the toilet (I got there BEFORE they flushed and kept them away all afternoon, and used the other toilet, until my husband came home and got it out) ended that. Now I keep it in a box in a drawer with a child lock, in the bathroom they’re not allowed in.
Muuuuch better.
You could keep yours in the car and just put it on when you go out and take it off when you come back. 😉
