This just in from Orbit:
- Through additional testing, our Infant Car Seat G2 can now be used for infants from 4 – 30 lbs, 32 in (previously 4 – 22 lbs, 29 in), when used on its own or with the Car Seat Base G2.
- Our Toddler Car Seat can now be used forward-facing from 20 – 65 lbs, 50 in (previously 20-50 lbs, 49 in). The rear-facing limits stay the same at (15 – 35 lbs).
- This change is retroactive for both seats that were ever sold in the United States, and Orbit Baby is offering an industry-first update program for our existing users, free of charge. They can request an update sticker kit to apply to their car seat to remind them of this updated weight rating by visiting this page on our website: http://www.orbitbaby.com/en/car-seat-weight-rating/
You can find the official press release at the same link as above.
this at least makes the infant seat more worth the price… and I’m impressed that they made it retroactive and are issuing new stickers… really impressed… because they are being honest that nothing about the seat has changed.
I still wish the rearfacing limit on the convertible seat was higher, but you can’t have everything.
I think it’s great too! I found the infant seat to be impressive (prior version: https://carseatblog.com/5498/orbit-baby-infant-seat-and-stroller-review-its-a-system) and the toddler seat (https://carseatblog.com/5668/orbit-toddler-car-seat-review-the-next-step) to be well-thought-out as well. They are on the expensive side, but that’s what you get from a forward-thinking company who uses top quality materials. I helped a dad install his infant base on Saturday and he didn’t believe me when I told him it would install itself. He chuckled afterward ;).
I love the fact that they’re issuing updated STICKERS. That is impressive (though admittedly what I’d expect from Orbit– I was REALLY impressed by them at KIM.)
Well, I’m officially impressed. Of course I’d still never pay that much for a seat, but I like that they not only did additional testing to increase their limits, but that they did enough testing to make it retroactive. *thumbsup*
