Today, I’m posting a short video clip of a long (or reverse) seat belt path installation. This fitment is in the 2nd row captain’s chair in a third generation, 2006 Honda Odyssey. This type of install is allowed on certain child restraint models, such as the Britax Frontier and Britax Regent. If permitted in the child restraint owner’s manual, this seatbelt routing may result in a more secure installation than the standard short seat belt path. This type of install can take a little more time and effort. You have to make sure not to get the seatbelt twisted and it may be a little more difficult to feed the slack from the lap belt up into the shoulder belt retractor. A second pair of hands can be a big help! Without further ado:
Tips for tricky Frontier installations and instructions for the long belt path method can be found at the Britax USA website. Instructions are also included on Page 28 of the owner’s manual. Here’s a much better quality video from Britax:

Thanks! After watching both video’s my husband and I were able to install our boys new car seats, in our Odyssey. The tip about reclining the seat made all the difference. Once we brought the seat back to upright everything was nice and tight. YEAH!
Yup- that’s a good technique too, in fact, I think that’s how they did it in the Britax video. The only reason I pull all the belt out first is that it makes it easier for me to keep it from twisting the seatbelt as I route it behind the child seat. If it doesn’t work one way for you, it’s good to have an alternative that might work better;-)
I have a regent that I use LBP – I actually don’t lock it out first. first I keep it loose, get it clipped in, then I lock it out… find it a little easier when doing it with just 1 person!
I have never posted on the blog before, even though I read it daily. Anyway, I just wanted to say thank you, thank you, thank you. We have our Frontier installed using LATCH because my daughter is only 35 lbs. We also drive a Honda Odyssey and I was so afraid of when we have to install using the LBP. You make it look so easy! I’m not as intimidated anymore, so thanks! 🙂
Great video, D.
Oh, how I love the long belt path with the Regent! It offers such flexibility. Thank goodness I never installed the “advisory” kit on my 2006 Regent, too, because LBP (without recline bar) is the only, ONLY way I can get the seat installed in my 1998 Escort.
