We like the Cybex Aton, as you may have noticed in our review. In fact, one of our regular contributors, Jennie, is brewing up a baby for us just to test it out in the daily routine! Sadly, we were informed today that Cybex apparently will not continue to market the Aton in the USA for 2012. We were told this is entirely a financial decision due to fixed costs associated with the product and an issue with a major retailer. Cybex will continue to sell their remaining 2011 stock and will continue to provide service and warranty for the Aton as it continues to do business in Germany and Europe. The Solution X-Fix booster may also be affected, but we are awaiting an official press release for confirmation of the details.
It is always unfortunate to see innovative products from great companies leave the USA market. In this economy, though, it is a reality that even some very good products don’t sell as well as they should. We want to thank the great people at Regal Lager and Cybex for their cooperation and support over the last few years and wish them the best in the future!
Update 9/20/2011, I found this in the morning’s email. It’s from ThinkPR, the public relations firm for Cybex. We are glad to hear that the earlier decision is being reconsidered!
CYBEX TO CONTINUE SELLING THE ATON AND SOLUTION X-FIX IN THE U.S. MARKET
New York, NY (September 19, 2011) – Regal Lager, the U.S. distributor for CYBEX, recently announced that they will no longer sell the CYBEX Aton and Solution X-fix within the U.S.; It is important to reiterate CYBEX’s commitment to the U.S., let consumers know that we are currently working with Regal Lager to find a solution which will guarantee the continued sale of CYBEX car seats within the U.S. market. This is not a quality or safety issue nor will it have any impact on the sales and distribution of CYBEX strollers and baby carriers. The CYBEX range of strollers and baby carriers will continue to be sold throughout the U.S.

This is a real bummer. I have the Aton and my little girl has outgrown it. Now I’m looking all over for the next seat up and I find all this bad news. I’m usually not a brand loyalist, but I am making an exception for Cybex. I love their car seat and I want another…. Please come back to USA.
I received some email this morning with a press release. It appears that there may be a reversal for this decision. I’ve updated the original blog! We look forward to Jennie’s review of the Aton with her pending arrival!
Oh nooooo!
I need to get an X-Fix before they’re gone, then. 🙁
I hope they DO continue to sell the LATCH guides- those things are insanely awesome!
I may start stockpiling them, just in case…
:( just brought our baby home from the hospital today in our new Aton. I am really liking it from a CPST stand point and my DH who normally does not touch the carseats, has had to (unexpectedly) install it 2X already – and did an awesome job and said how much he liked the innovative install.
I am really sad to see it go before it even got a real chance.
NOOOOO!!!! I won’t have another baby for ages, but this makes me want to buy one now. I love Cybex!
This is so disappointing to hear. I have not even been able to find the Aton locally to see it in person. None of the Babies R Us stores have it in stock.
that is a bummer, does that mean they’ll be going on clearance everywhere?
I can’t speak for the accessory LATCH funnel guides, but the X-Fix is leaving us as well. They will continue to sell strollers here in North America but are getting out of the CR business.
The Britax Baby Safe comes to mind offhand as another infant seat pulled, possibly in part due to sales. Ironically, the essentially identical Cosy Tot sold in Great Britain was later praised for its safety by a leading consumer magazine who asked, “Why don’t seats sold in the U.S. perform as well as this European model?” What they didn’t realize was that the Baby Safe had been in the U.S., but attracted too few buyers. Granted, the Aton is less expensive than either the Baby Safe or the Cosy Tot were back in 2007. I guess we need to do a blog on carseats that were discontinued before their time!
Oh noooo! What a bummer! I hope that they continue to sell the X-Fix- and the LATCH Guides!
