So, what is it that your spouse does that really makes you hate their driving? How about something other drivers do while you are driving? Everyone thinks they are a good driver, so it’s all the other idiots that cause crashes, but maybe you know a driving behavior of your own that is less than safe? Please share!
Driving Habits that Bug You

Near the top for me are people who don’t use a turn signal, then honk at you because you didn’t guess that they were turning in front of you. With my dw, I’m terrified in construction areas when there is a barrier on one side and oncoming traffic on the other and she is part way over the divider.
My dh takes corners too close and sometimes hits them. I keep telling him that he has to drive like he’s driving a bus (and he used to drive a school bus!)–make more of a 90* turn and not turn so early–but do you think he listens? Nope. He’s the one who put the first scratches on my rims. I won’t go into other people’s habits: the list is too long, lol.
this time of year, it’s people who put their (usually bare) feet on the dashboard or (worse) out the window while riding in the passenger seat.
But, yesterday, we hit a new one… people who drive those Jeeps that have no doors, no actual windows… they roll up the cloth sides, so I can see their young children (under 8 at least… the ones I saw had to be about 5 and 6)… with no head support, sometimes no shoulder support, not in boosters, and yet the shoulderbelts either on their neck or (in this case with the younger one… a girl) behind their back. Their mother had one foot on the dash and one out of the actual passenger portion of the vehicle, resting on the part you step into to get up and in.
I just wondered, as they coasted down our big 4-lane road doing the 55mph speed limit, how in the world they thought this was safe, but especially for their children.
I probably drive (heh) people crazy with my hypermiling…I always coast as long as possible to a stoplight or sign, while everyone behind me wants to get to that red light as fast as they possibly can 😉
I bicker with my DH to stop changing lanes so much. I read somewhere it’s a huge cause of crashes. I’m sure my distractive yapping not to change lanes is just as bad, though, lol.
My dh is a tailgater. It drives me crazy. If he’s behind someone going below the speed limit, he’ll just tailgate them and not go around until I say something. He’ll complain when people do the same to him, though.
The above four way stop is definitely a killer. I usually cite the lack of turnsignal usage – that is definitely one of my biggest pet peeves. But in the last 2 years, we’ve had a lot of power outages here, meaning a lot of time with stop lights out. And people do not know what to do when the light is out (or even if it’s a blinking red or yellow!), usually just soaring through the intersection, which has been really dangerous.
My biggest pet peeve when it comes to driving is when people don’t know the “rules” when they come to a 4-way stop. There’s nothing worse than knowing it’s your turn to go, only to have to start-stop-start because someone has gone out of turn.
