Are you looking for a carseat made in the USA? Perhaps you are a purchaser for an agency, program or grant that requires procurement from the USA? Or maybe you’re just curious about where carseats on the market today are being made, perhaps due to economic, quality or safety concerns? I decided to make a list because I was curious too. The seats are organized alphabetically by manufacturer within each category (infant seat, convertible, combination & booster).

Data taken from product labeling and manufacturer correspondence
Hello,
I am currently needing a current list of seats made in the USA. I see that you last updated this list June 2016. Do you plan on updating soon? I use this list to help with purchases on NTHSA Grants. Thank you for all you help.
The Dorel products no longer appear to be made in the USA. I attempted to purchase the Onboard Air from Amazon. Manufacture date was December of 2014 and it said Made in China all over it.
Hi Carrie, Dorel still maintains a very large factory in Columbus, IN, where most of their products are made. Some are made overseas. Also, some labels required to be on the box refer to where the covers are made, often in Asia, even though the main carseat and major components are made in the USA.
looking for a Stroller which made in usa, hard to find it, any suggestion?
Good information. I am also looking for American made products and it is very difficult to obtain full description. Can you help me with a playpen and a reversible stroller? USA made. I will take Canada also. Thanks
Will you be doing a review of the new Evenflo Transitions 3 in 1 seat anytime soon? I’m hoping some good reviews will be coming for this new seat as I’m looking at the options for combination boosters with a max harnessed weight over 50lbs! Thanks!
Hi Sarah – I’m not sure when our review will be ready but the Transitions appears to be a very nice option if you’re willing to take a chance on a brand new seat. Personally, I don’t have enough experience with it yet to really form an opinion. You probably know this but there are already several good options available that go to 65 lbs. or higher with the harness. You can find details on our Recommended Seats list: https://carseatblog.com/carseatblogcoms-recommended-car-seats/
Thank you so much for a quick response! Sorry for all the questions, but I have just a couple more if you don’t mind?! I actually bought the Transitions today to try out and installed it with the seatbelt + tether because my daughter is 51 lbs. This is the first time we have had to install without using the latch connectors and I have to say I am concerned the seat is moving way too much. I can pull from the front of the seat forwards and the whole bottom moves out about 5-6 inches. Its almost like the seat belt isn’t routed low enough (like closer to where the latch anchors would be??)? The seatbelt is locked and tightened as much as my husband could possibly get it to tighten. Is that normal when installing with the seatbelt?! Also, the way the seatbelt guide is designed seemed to make it more difficult for my daughter to pull down on her own than I was expecting (UGH!) Ok next question….We actually already have combination boosters (50 lb max with harness) that I intended to be the last seats we would purchase. Unfortunately, when we switched to highback booster mode for our daughter who is just over the max weight for the harness, the seatbelt was very difficult to route and extremely hard to buckle, even for my husband, due to the width of the seat itself. This is why I was looking at new combination seats again in the first place. My kids are 6 1/2 yr old twins… She is 45″ 51 lbs and he is a bit smaller at 44″ 44 lbs. I’ve also just considered purchasing new highback boosters like the Graco Affix since they both are over the 4 yr/40lb weight limit. So my question is this, with their current stats, would you invest in higher weight combination seats or would you be completely comfortable with their safety if you moved them both to a highback booster? I think I just need assurance, because there are so many options out there its hard to know what is the right thing to do to insure their safety! Again, thanks so much for you help. It is greatly appreciated! Sara 🙂
Genevieve, sorry for the late response. Britax does not manufacture their convertibles anywhere other than Charlotte (North/South Carolina). Some components of their seats are made elsewhere, notably the covers, which may have their own labels on the cover and on the box. If your carseat manufacture label on the Boulevard itself does show Mexico or China, would you please send us a photo? cpsdarren “at” carseatblog “dot” com. Thank you!
We bought a Britax Boulevard in 2008 that said made in Mexico, and another in 2013 that said made in China. I was disappointed to see that, and the 2nd seat is of inferior quality to the first. Right now I’m looking for a convertible seat that is actually made in USA, or at least not in China, or at the very least with as few components as possible from China. Can anyone tell me what carseat that might be? TIA!
The diono Radian RXT is made in CHINA
This is so helpful!! Is there a printable version? I’d like to have one on hand that I can make notes on. We are getting ready to spend some grant money on training seats.
Thank you!
Jen
Hey there. This is GREAT info!! Thank you! I am working with a local organization and they have grant money that must be used on products made in the USA and I had no idea where to point her. Now I do. Unfortunately she will not be able to purchase the RideSafer Vest for her families (which tend to have space challenges in their cars and are not likely to get bigger cars) because Safe Traffic System has is made in Vietnam (I didn’t see it on the list 🙂 )
Thanks again!
Greg
The Evenflow Amp high back booster is made in China. There is a sticker on the outside of the box that indicates this, as well as a sticker that says made in the USA. But when I opened the box all the tags indicated it was made in China, with the exception of the plastic part of the base that the child sits on being “assembled” in the US. To me this seat is not made in the US. I feel like the sticker on the front of the box is misleading and false.
The TOMY/The First Years Via Infant seat is also made in China
Okay, this is fantastic! THANK YOU!!! I kept trying to figure this out
Now, i need a grid:
high weight limit on harness
narrow fit for possible 3-across when friends are visiting (back seat of minivan, darn wheel wells!)
made in USA
looking for something for my almost-5, and almost-50lb nephew. he’s outgrown our hand-me-down evenflo, uses a Graco nautilus in mom’s and grandma’s cars, but this summer trying to fit 3 nautiluses, one Snugride, and 4 grownups in the van was… darn near impossible. I got all the seats installed rock solid, but i’m not sure if the methods were entirely to spec.
I was looking at Diono Radians, but would prefer something made in USA/Canada/Europe just on principle of factory workers’ rights and such…trying to buy that way on everything I possibly can.
Anyone have thoughts on that? I’ve read lots of 3-across lists and looked on websites to find widths of carseats… hours of research…and it’s not even MY KIDDO!!! (though he is my favorite!)
Thank you!
@ Mark J. – thanks for the update. That was the one Evenflo seat that I didn’t have specific info on so I went off the info on the Evenflo website: (http://www.evenflo.com/Products/Evenflo/Car_Seats/RightFit/). Apparently, the info on that webpage isn’t accurate. I’m sorry about that! I will confirm with Evenflo and update the blog.
We found your website to be quite helpful! However, the Evenflo RightFit booster seat is actually made in CHINA! We bought 2 of them and the stickers on the box and bottom of the seat say “Made in China.” Sadly we are returning them because we wanted USA only. Thanks for providing this info!
@Daniel – thanks for the info! The chart has been updated to reflect the correct information.
Dorel Juvenile Group makes the following Infant CRS in the USA. Comfy Carry, On Board 35, On Board Air, and Mico; under the Cosco, Safety 1st, & Maxi-Cosi Brands.
I remember at KIM a few years ago, Evenflo had a session where people from the audience (all CPSTs) worked the assembly line to make a seat.
As a manufacturer, I know that one advantage of having production close by is that you can not only monitor the process and progress of the lot, but you can get ideas by watching and talking with the people who are putting it all together.
Thanks, Kecia! I note that while it’s easier to determine the country of origin, or where the final production line is located, it’s much more difficult to determine where the components or “value added” come from. For example, even on models made in North America, the boxes and fabric may have a label indicating that the cover materials are made overseas. Also, important safety components like harness and LATCH systems are often sourced from other suppliers. For example, one well regarded supplier, IMMI/Safeguard, makes their components in North America. Others are often sourced from southeast Asia.
We DO NOT base our reviews or opinions at CarseatBlog upon the country of origin. Even so, we do often note where carseats are manufactured for those consumers who may be concerned. We recognize that many shoppers like to support their domestic economies. Others may be concerned about factory labor conditions or lack of government environmental regulations in some countries noted for very low cost production. Some may be troubled by possible quality control issues or the lack of oversight on the use of potentially hazardous materials when 3rd party manufacturing facilities are used. These are all valid concerns, but obviously may not apply to some or any of the models listed here!
We have seen some of the USA production facilities in the past. Kecia and I blogged about the Dorel/Maxi-Cosi/Safety1st plant in Columbus, Indiana a while back. I have toured the Britax production lines in Charlotte, NC, and hope to see their new, larger facility in South Carolina soon!
