Thankful

cornucopiaHappy Thanksgiving from our families to yours! We hope everyone has a fantastic holiday and safe travels to and from your destination. If you’re lucky enough to be staying home today – I’m jealous. I’ll be sitting in traffic trying to get to Long Island. Yeah… so not fun. But I still have tons to be thankful for so I’ll try to keep that in mind while I’m creeping along on the Van Wyck Expressway.

Of course I’m thankful for great friends, a wonderful family, our health, a roof over our heads, the food on our table and all the other important stuff that I try never to lose sight of. But this is CarseatBlog so I would be remiss if I didn’t mention the CPS-related stuff that I’m super thankful for this year.
I’m thankful for (in no particular order)…

  • Affordable higher-weight harness seats
  • Infant seats (and even a few convertibles) that fit smaller newborns really well
  • Beltpaths that don’t cut my wrists when I’m installing the seat
  • Budget-friendly seats that are still easy to use correctly
  • All the smart, passionate & dedicated techs, instructors and advocates that I learn from everyday

So, what are you thankful for this year?

It’s CarseatBlog’s **5 YEAR BLOGIVERSARY**! And We’re Celebrating With YOU!

July 2013 marks 5 full years of CarseatBlog.com!  Can you believe it?!?  In some ways it seems like not so long ago that we began blogging about carseats and child passenger safety and vehicle safety and any other related topic that struck our fancy. And in some other ways it feels like we’ve been doing this forever… Lol!

Along the way we’ve shared some laughs (R.I.P. Marvin), made some great friends, offended a few people who didn’t understand the concept of a joke and oh, yes - reviewed a carseat or two. ;)

Whether you’re new to CarseatBlog.com or been with us since the start in 2008 – we’d like to share our cake with you. YOU are the reason that we’re still here 5 years later, still blogging away, always looking for ways to improve our content and better serve our readers.

Thank you for hangin’ with us during the last 5 years and we hope you stick around and visit us often. The field of Child Passenger Safety is just starting to heat up and take off, and we have a lot of great things planned for the near future here at CarseatBlog.  We can’t wait to see all the awesome advances in safety, technology and innovation that the next 5 years is going to bring us. We hope you stick around and enjoy the ride with us!

Hello from Florida: Be Safe on Your Summer Vacay!

Greetings from sunny Florida!  I was planning to take a week off from the interwebz, but couldn’t resist posting a couple photos.  On a trip to Legoland, we happened to see the full-size LEGO Ford Explorer and I wondered how well it would do in a crash test?  The real 4800-pound, 2013 Explorer does quite well, earning an IIHS Top Safety Pick for 2013 and a 5-star overall rating from NHTSA.  Would the 2500-pound LEGO version even hold up against an 1800-pound,  Smart ForTwo?

And now a public service reminder for the upcoming holday driving season:

Happy Father’s Day!

Best Dad RibbonOn behalf of CarseatBlog, Heather, Jennie & I would like to wish a Happy Father’s Day to Darren and to all the awesome dads out there! Extra bonus points are awarded to all stay-at-home dads, dads who know how to use a cloth diaper correctly, dads who allow pink/purple/flowery or “mooing” carseats in their vehicle, dads who actually hear the baby in the middle of the night AND get up to help, dads of teenagers, dads of teenagers who are driving and want to borrow YOUR car every 5 minutes, and dads with spouses who spend countless hours on the car-seat.org forums. We salute you all!

We especially want to pay tribute to our fearless leader, Darren Qunell. Without his passion and visionary leadership, there would be no Car-Seat.org community or CarseatBlog.com. We’re thankful that he was confident enough to ignore the naysayers back in 2001 who told him that creating a forum dedicated specifically to Child Passenger Safety was a waste of time. 12 years later Car-Seat.org is thriving and our dedicated community of advocates are helping to educate parents and caregivers across the globe in a friendly and welcoming environment! :)
