Oopsie!
On our long drive to Lake Minnewaska, my mom said something about DS (5) in his carseat that I initially dismissed. After all, she never used carseats for her kids and I think the extent of her experience driving our kids in her car was a Britax Laptop and a backless booster. A while later, after reflecting upon it, I thought I should check something. Of course, that check didn’t come until a lunch stop on our way back home a few days later. Everyone else was still eating and I remembered that I wanted to check it, so I did. Sure enough, mom was right!
I’m pretty sure it wasn’t a critical error, all things considered. Even so, it was definitely a mistake. What did I do wrong?
No, there aren’t a lot of clues but I will add some later if no one gets it! Sorry no giveaway this time, it’s just for fun! Feel free to guess at will.

Misrouted the tether?
Twisted tether strap?
Upside down LATCH connectors?
Seatbelt buckled into wrong buckle?
crotch strap in wrong slot?
Not tethered?
Nothing to do with the tether system. He’s above 40 lbs and was riding in a 5-point harness on the trip.
hmmm…I’m gonna say headrest was not in the right position (too high, too low).
Were the shoulder straps in position for rear-facing?
Hmmm, you were able to check it while everyone else was still eating, right? Maybe the buckle was twisted on the strap?
It was very easy to check once I remembered and opened the door, just something difficult to do while driving. Okay, it’s a combination seat. I’m sure someone will probably guess it now.
It’s a Frontier 85?
chest clip undone?
Latch not stored?
Recline block of the Frontier in the wrong position?
You got it! I’ve installed Frontiers countless times and it isn’t the first time I’ve had to reinstall for the recline block! Granted, I normally catch it right away. My mom commented that he really should be more reclined so it’s easier for him to sleep. I’m like, Moooooom, carseats can be more upright and it’s perfectly fine. Of course, she was right. Never doubt mom!
See, I was totally thinking that, but I *CAN* see that from the drivers seat, so I thought that must not be it lol!
Lol sorry! I tried but I couldn’t tell with a quick glance. I didn’t want to take my eyes off the road because it was a torrential downpour on the way there, the same rains that flooded southern Wisconsin and the Chicago area last weekend.
Cool! I win the Frontier for that, right? :-p
If your road trip rolls through Chicago, maybe we can work something out;-)
I’ve found it’s also very hard to get the harness tight with the recline block in the wrong position – the yoke catches on the recline foot.
