This seat looks like a dream for anyone who has had to take a toddler through an airport (or two) in a stroller while carrying the carseat… Or for anyone who rigged their scenera to an umbrella stroller to make something that functioned more like this!

Thanks for the tip, Heather. Although I should’ve clarified, any tips on how to get the *base* installed in a front-of-bight situation, or maybe that’s what you were referring to?

Kat, you can buy the stroller & stroller seat together as well, without the infant seat.

Kat, Kids-N-Cribs lists the stroller frame separately: http://www.kids-n-cribs.com/orbit-baby. I know that once the G2 comes out, the infant seat will be sold separately, so that will be a change from past marketing for Orbit.

I’ve always been a fan of the orbit things… I really like that they are practical about the starting baby’s size for minimums… I know they use the same dummies… but obviously most newborns are just not going to fit a seat with 10-11″ bottom slots.

Orbit eliminates that one part of misuse by simply giving a higher minimum weight.

I really love how much thought goes into their products… if it weren’t for the fact it’s so expensive… especially as you can’t buy the stroller frame separately (I’m hoping one day that will change, because I’m one who would buy a less expensive infant seat, but still love to be able to buy the stroller and the bassinet, stroller seat, and this toddler carseat, if I had the money to do so.

Short torsos unite! I’m impressed with it too, Kecia. I was a bit panicked when I couldn’t find a larger kid to try it out for me and I figured there was no way she would fit into it at age 7.5. You know, no carseat actually will fit a kid up to its limits. But this one does! It does help that she’s skinny.

Great review, Heather! I’m really quite impressed by this CR. I love the more upright rear-facing recline angle and I can’t believe your DD still fits in it forward-facing! That was both impressive and unexpected.

EssentialClarity, the attachment mechanisms are slightly different between the infant seat and the toddler seat: the toddler seat’s are a bit more . . . robust and made of metal. I took a picture for comparison: http://carseatblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/02/Orbit-bottoms.jpg . I think they have to be stronger like that because the seat has the higher rf weight limit and is a necessarily larger seat. I wonder if they will move to similar attachments for the infant seat.

Wendy, when I was originally installing the toddler seat, I didn’t recline the vehicle seat because I don’t like to use “cheats” at first. The trick is to get the belt through the lockoff as smoothly and snugly as possible because as it clamps it down, it will tighten it. I think it helps to have a 2nd set of hands in there to help.

EssentialClarity, the funny thing is that Consumer Reports had a concern with the infant seat, but did not find issue with the toddler seat (they gave it a good crash protection rating).
