So is there really that much of a difference between the original frontier and the frontier 85? I've seen several websites advertising the original frontier for a really good price vs the new ones. From what I can see, the frontier 85 seems taller and can hold the child up to 120 lbs vs the 100 lbs? Also do you know of any problems with installing it into a 2003 Toyota 4Runner? Thanks so much for all your advice!

It is quite likely your 3 year old will outgrow the Decathlon by height, well before 65 pounds, maybe even around 50 pounds depending how tall they grow.

So, I would definitely suggest a combination seat like the Frontier 85 or equivalent and passing the Decathlon down for your 15 month old to use rear facing!

Hello, I have a 15 month that is only 20 lbs. I'm debating on getting a Marathon for and my 3 year old that is 30 lbs, is currently in the Decathlon. Should I get the Frontier for my 3 year old and let my 15 month old use the Decathlon? I know the Marathon goes all the way up to 65lbs in weight, which seems like a long time from now, but the thought of saving money on only having to buy one more booster seat in the long run is nice too. What do you recommend? Also do you know if the Frontier works okay with a 2003 Toyota 4Runner? By the way, I love your blog, very helpful!

I can NOT install the Britax Frontier 85 with the recline block forward (as intructed) in my 2004 Tahoe. Backseat does not recline and the headrest are not removalbe (unlike minivans, the seats recline), therefore, it is impossible,,,otherwise the carseat sticks out about 8 inches away from the seat. I installed both seats (I have 2) without the recline block ON, on harness mode. I have an appointment to have them inspected next week. Anyone else have the same issue?

Please see our review of the Frontier 85 http://carseatblog.com/?p=5751 . It has replaced the original Frontier discussed in this review.

I think the Frontier (or newer Frontier 85) is a reasonable choice for both children if it fits your vehicle and you find it easy to use. There are also various other combination harness/booster seats that you may find equally nice.

Depending on how mature your 4 year old is, they might do well in a high back booster also. My almost 5 year old is pretty squirmy, so he's still in a harness most of the time. He does ride in a booster now and then, especially if no siblings are in the car.

I came across you blog (which is great) and was hoping for some help. I have a 2 year old who is 38 pounds and 37 inches, quickly outgrowing the Roundabout, and a 4 year old who is 45 inches and 46 pounds-is the Frontier a good choice for both, or what would you recommend for the older? I thought it best to keep them both in a 5 point harness as long as possible, but was wondering if the price of the Frontier was worth it.

Hi T, have you seen our review of the new Frontier 85? It might work well for your younger kids. For your oldest, you can see the photos of my older kids in our Parkway SG review. There are some other nice boosters like the Monterey and Rodi XR and even a backless might work very well for you.

Stumbled upon your site tonight and enjoyed reading. Need quick help deciding which seats to get for daughters. Oldest is 9 - is the Parkway SG the way to go? Middle is almost 7 - she's been in the Huskey...we've had it for 6yrs. Can she stay in this for a little longer or is there a better option? She's 2" too short to qualify for the Parkway. Youngest is 4 - thinking about the Frontier. Thoughts or advice on which is the best option for all 3 would be greatly appreciated.
